 Laser hair removal works by emitting a concentrated beam of light that is then absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles. This light energy converts to heat, effectively damaging the follicles to inhibit future hair growth. The surrounding skin remains unaffected, ensuring a safe and targeted treatment. 

PRE

• Avoid sun and tanning bed exposure for at least 3 weeks prior to your laser hair removal appointment
• No retinols or AHA/BHA creams for 72 hours prior on any areas to be treated
• Avoid any sunless or self-tanner for at least 3 weeks prior
• No waxing, tweezing, plucking, depilatory devices or creams for 6 weeks prior to your appointment
• If you start any new medications, including short term antibiotics, please notify Pure Cosmetics as many medications are photosensitizing and can increase your risk to be burned by a laser treatment
• Any changes in medical history or diagnoses must be disclosed to Pure Cosmetics in writing from your last clearance appointment

POST

• Make sure to wear a broad spectrum daily and keep treated areas covered as much as possible
• Avoid hot showers, steam rooms, saunas and strenuous activity for 24-48 hours to help minimize risk of infection
• Use mild and gentle cleansers while any irritation or redness/swelling is present
• Do not exfoliate, pick or scratch the treated area to avoid irritation and infection
• Within a few days, you will most likely see what looks like new hair growth- this is the follicle shedding the hair and over the next few weeks you'll see slower, "patchy" and finer growth to the treated area!

Some individuals may experience mild and temporary side effects such as:

• Redness and Swelling: It is common to experience slight redness and swelling of the follicles in the treated area immediately after the session. This typically subsides within a few hours.
• Mild Discomfort: Areas of denser, thicker hairs may feel more redness and swelling present (bikini, male jawlines/beards/mustaches) that create mild discomfort. Cooling packs can help. Do not pick, exfoliate or apply non-gentle products to the areas treated
• Blisters and Crusting: In rare cases, blisters or crusting may occur. These side effects are uncommon and typically heal without complications when proper aftercare is followed. If you feel that you have blistering or crusting, call our office as soon as possible.
