Pre-treatment instructions: 

1. Avoid Sun Exposure: Refrain from direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least three weeks before your laser treatment. Sunburned or tanned skin is more susceptible to adverse reactions from laser therapy.
2. Shave Treatment Area: For laser hair removal treatments, ensure that the treatment area is cleanly shaved the day before your appointment. Avoid waxing, plucking, or using depilatory creams, as these methods can remove the hair follicle, which is necessary for the laser to target.
3. Avoid Certain Skincare Products: Discontinue the use of retinoids, exfoliating scrubs, and products containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid for at least one week before your laser treatment. These products can increase skin sensitivity and potentially cause adverse reactions during laser therapy.
4. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment to ensure your skin is adequately hydrated. Hydrated skin responds better to laser treatments and promotes faster healing.
5. Inform Your Provider: Notify your provider of any recent changes in your medical history, medications, or skincare routine. This information will help them tailor the treatment to your specific needs and minimize the risk of complications.

Contraindications:

• Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions on the area(s) being treated
• Had radiation treatment to the skin within past year
• Any kind of current skin infection or herpes simplex to the area to be treated (can trigger outbreaks)
• Pregnant or breastfeeding
• Poor wound healing
• Botox/Dermal fillers injected within past 2 weeks
• Microneedling or other skin resurfacing within past two weeks

Post treatment instructions: 

1. Protect Your Skin: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to the treated area daily, especially if exposed to sunlight. Protecting your skin from UV radiation helps prevent pigmentation changes and ensures optimal healing.
2. Avoid Sun Exposure: Minimize sun exposure as much as possible for at least two weeks following your laser treatment. If unavoidable, wear protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses, and apply broad spectrum sunscreen liberally.
3. Skip Harsh Products: Avoid using harsh skincare products, such as retinoids, exfoliating scrubs, and products containing alcohol, for at least one week post-treatment. Opt for gentle cleansers and moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the skin.
4. Keep Skin Cool: Apply cool compresses or ice packs to the treated area as needed to alleviate discomfort and reduce swelling. Avoid hot showers, saunas, and activities that cause excessive sweating for the first 24-48 hours post-treatment.
5. Follow Provider's Recommendations: Adhere to any additional post-treatment instructions provided by your provider, such as using prescribed topical medications or attending follow-up appointments. These guidelines are crucial for ensuring optimal results and minimizing the risk of complications.
