What is Fraxel® DUAL?
Fraxel® DUAL is the original fractionated laser treatment to help improve texture and radiance for aging, sun damaged or scarred skin. Fraxel® is for people who want to look younger without dramatic changes or extended downtime.
A DUAL treatment (1550 and 1927) is the best treatment for optimal results for issues like periorbital wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, age spots/sunspots (pigmented lesions), melasma (irregular patches of brown skin on forehead, cheeks, upper lip and nose), actinic keratoses (skin condition) and overall skin resurfacing.
How does it work?
Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.
The care you follow-through with at home can be more important that just coming in for regular treatments. Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment, and wear a wide-brimmed hat when you're in the sun.
How long results will last will vary upon the individual's skin condition prior to starting treatment, as well as the upkeep at home. Once your skin is treated, continue to protect it as described above. Our licensed medical technicians can provide more specific advice based on your individual needs.
We always offer free consultations to go over a treatment plan and regimen, and to make sure you are a proper candidate for Fraxel® treatments.
At your treatment appointment, a topical numbing agent is applied for your comfort. Most patients will report an increased sensation of heat during treatment. Additionally, we have a Cryo Zimmer for intense cooling and comfort during the treatment. You will most likely feel like you have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1-3 hours.
Over the next 3-10 days (depending on an individual's skin turnaround time), most patients report a slightly red, rough texture to the skin. It is important to let the skin heal naturally by keeping it well hydrated, without picking or exfoliating, and using non-comedogenic, non-fragranced moisturizers.
Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Depending on your condition and schedule, you and our medical professionals may choose to space treatment sessions further apart. Results are immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allow for healing and the production of new collagen to replace damaged tissue.
